Dr. Anurag Agrawal
Consultant Gastroenterologist
Dr Anurag Agrawal (PhD university of Manchester, MRCP UK) is a Consultant Physician, Endoscopist and Gastroenterologist. He is also an endoscopy trainer and endoscopy governance lead for Phoenix. Dr Agrawal's clinical interests include Endoscopy procedures such as diagnostic and therapeutic Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy and ERCP. He is a highly experienced and skilled clinician. His clinical and research interests include Functional gastrointestinal disorders including Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Dyspepsia, Hepatology and biliary disorders as well as Inflammatory Bowel Disorders. He has published and presented widely at local, national and international scientific meetings.
Mr. Asham Amin
Audiologist
I am a fully qualified clinical audiologist. I have Graduated from the university of Manchester with Bachelor's Honors. My Career began working in the NHS Hospital settings where I developed and fine-tuned my clinical skills to better care for my patients. Since then, I have worked for numerous organisations within the NHS and gone to specialise in Endoscopic microsuction.
Mr. Carl Ashmore
Physiotherapist
Carl completed his undergraduate Physiotherapy degree in 2014 and very quickly followed his passion and specialism into Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and Sports Rehabilitation. Since then, Carl has had extensive training in this specialist area and prides himself on providing care using the latest evidence-based treatments and rehabilitation that gets results.
He has completed a Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine, conducted by the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK and Primary Care Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Medicine Society, and has worked with amateur and professional athletes across a broad range of sports helping them to improve their performance with an evidence-based approach.
Carl also previously ran his own and very successful clinic (CSA Physio), where he developed an excellent reputation for his skills in Strength & Conditioning and Injury Rehabilitation.
Carl now splits his week working in an NHS GP setting as a First Contact Practitioner and MSK physiotherapist, alongside private MSK physiotherapy work. The two variations of work ensure that Carl is able to make rapid and accurate diagnoses to ensure patients receive the best treatment available as soon as possible, whilst also honing his skills in rehabilitation to assist patients on their journey to injury recovery.
Outside of work, Carl is a sports enthusiast and loves to hike. He competes in CrossFit competitions, cycles in the Peak District regularly and is a keen runner.
Mr. Srinivasan Balchandra
Upper GI & Bariatric Surgeon
Mr Balchandra is a general, upper GI and bariatric surgeon working in Doncaster & Bassetlaw NHS Trust. He is able to offer keyhole surgical treatment for gallstones (and other problems of the gall bladder viz. polyps), acid reflux, hiatus hernia and other problems relating to the gullet and stomach. He has performed over 3,000 laparoscopic (keyhole) procedures with very good outcomes and an almost negligible complication rate, so you can be assured of technical proficiency and high-quality care. He also performs surgery to repair groin and abdominal wall hernias. He is able to offer both open and laparoscopic repairs for these patients, including using the latest ‘component separation’ techniques of abdominal wall reconstruction in complex hernias to achieve a successful outcome.
Mr Balchandra holds a CCT (Certificate of completion of Specialist Training) in General, Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery from Yorkshire Deanery and is a fully accredited general, upper GI and bariatric surgeon. He has obtained a Master’s Degree (M.S.) in General Surgery from Mumbai in India and a MD from University of Manchester.
He has a number of academic awards and distinctions including Ethicon Prize for Best Research presentation, Best Resident in Trauma Surgery and has been nominated for Best Thesis Prize.
Mr Balchandra has held training posts across the globe including the prestigious Mayo clinic in USA. He has given scientific presentations in national and international meetings and has publications in several peer-reviewed journals including the British Journal of Surgery.
Mr. John Butcher
Physiotherapist
Mr John Butcher qualified in 2002 at Leeds Metropolitan University (Now Leeds Beckett). He also has postgraduate certificate in rehabilitation and qualifications in Pilates and Acupuncture.
Mr Butcher has worked since qualifying at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS trust and until recently ran his own private practice.
Mr Butcher joined the team at Phoenix in June 2021.
When Mr Butcher is not working, you’ll find him either walking the hills some where or at a horse racing track.

Colorectal & General Surgeon
I have been a full-time Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon, in Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust, since 2015. I have an interest in colorectal cancer and functional bowel disorders (irritable bowel disease and pelvic floor problems). I am the Lead for Bowel Cancer (investigation and treatment), within my Trust, and lead the Multi-Disciplinary team.
I am an experienced, JAG accredited endoscopist, as well as performing open and keyhole (laparoscopic) operations for bowel diseases, including colon and rectal cancer). I am currently training to be a robotic surgeon.
I also have a passion for education, and I am Deputy Programme Director for the Yorkshire School of Surgery, involved in delivering the training for the Higher Surgical Trainees throughout Yorkshire. I have recently been appointed as a National Training Programme Director, and I am part of a team developing the National General Surgical education programme for UK and Ireland.
I love my work and consider myself to be extremely privileged to do the job that I do! I work with an absolutely great team at Phoenix Health Solutions and we all endeavour to give you the very best care in our unit.
Mr. Niraj Khetan
Consultant Surgeon
Mr. Niraj Khetan is a senior consultant surgeon at Doncaster, South Yorkshire who specialises in laparoscopic and colorectal surgery. He is also a specialist endoscopist (colonoscopy & gastroscopy)
Mr. Khetan was appointed a consultant surgeon in 2006 at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS foundation trust. During his tenure he has held several senior management roles including deputy director of education, clinical lead of Gastrointestinal surgery, Foundation Program director and Governance / Audit lead. He is an educational trainer for Gastrointestinal surgery and endoscopy.
He is most senior gastrointestinal surgeon at Phoenix Health Solutions.
Mr. Dan Mathapati
Consultant Ophthalmologist
After completing my basic medical degree MBBS in 1998 and Postgraduate ophthalmology training in 2002 I came to UK for further training in 2003.
I underwent further ophthalmology training across many NHS trusts including Moorfields Eye Hospital, Frimley Park Hospital Frimley. While training I was involved in many landmark research studies in medical retina and presented papers and posters at many conferences across the world.
Whilst working as Consultant ophthalmologist I have special interests in high volume cataract surgeries and medical retina since 2009 across many NHS trusts. I am still actively involved in research and training surgery to junior doctors.
I am actively doing regular high volume cataract surgeries in Phoenix Health solutions since 2013 with excellent audit results superior to national average.
I am a family man with three beautiful children, love cricket and love to travel around the world. My other passions are entrepreneurship and politics.
Mrs. Sharlene Rampersaud
Consultant Ophthalmologist
As an ophthalmologist with over 12 years experience working in the UK my role pivots on general ophthalmology being qualified to treat all types of general ophthalmic conditions, attaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgery Ophthalmology Glasgow in 2014 and Affiliate Membership of The Royal College of Ophthalmology London 2012. I have a keen interest in cataract surgery, complex cataract surgery, oculoplastics and medical retina, having performed over 3000 cataract operations.
My responsibility is to provide consistent high quality high volume safe eye care services with meticulous attention to results, cosmesis and patient satisfaction.
I balance this high volume service with copious teaching mentoring and training junior ophthalmologists in clinics, lasers and ocular surgeries and I’m currently pursuing a Masters in Medical Education.
Prior to work in the United Kingdom, I have over 10 years experience in Ophthalmology in the West Indies Tertiary Eye Department after graduating Medical School in 2002 with vast experience in Acute Eye Care Services including globe injury trauma and repair, Glaucoma and Diabetic Eye Care services.
Outside of work I can be easily found at a live music event, at any waterfront sport with my family, parenting two busy and active teenage boys or at home cooking interesting international recipes with my partner.
Mr. Kallingal Riyad
Colorectal & General Surgeon
Mr. Kallingal Riyad is a consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon. He has been on the specialist register for General Surgery since 2007 and been a consultant General and colorectal surgeon since October 2007, initially in Lancashire and since 2015 at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS trust (Jimmy’s).
His areas of interest are, primary colorectal cancers and complex inflammatory bowel disease, particularly re-operative Crohn's disease. He also performs abdominal wall reconstructions for complex hernias. He is skilled at performing bowel surgery by Laparoscopic approach and sought after trainer for these.
He is a trainer for diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and Upper GI endoscopy and is an advocate for water insufflation endoscopy.
He is also a medical examiner for the Leeds region who scrutinises records of those who have died in the hospital and in the community, identifying care issues and advising primary clinician on necessity for coroner's referral.
He has been an expert witness in General Surgery, Endoscopy and Colorectal surgery, advising the court on negligence, causation and condition and prognosis. Mr Riyad is also an accredited mediator.
Mr. Manohar Shetty
Consultant Clinical Endoscopist
Mr Shetty is a Consultant Clinical Endoscopist in Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust.
He is highly experienced in Endoscopy and has done more than 40,000 different Gastrointestinal Endoscopic procedures over the last 23 years.
Mr Shetty is an Advanced therapeutic Gastrointestinal Endoscopist and he has treated many complex challenging patients with negligible complications.
In the past, Mr Shetty has been the Clinical Endoscopy Lead in the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust.
Mr Shetty is a core member of the colorectal cancer multi-disciplinary team and Complex Polyp Management Multi-disciplinary team in the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust.
He is also a trainer for both upper & lower GI endoscopy in the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust.
